Who is Jesus?
Jesus said “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” - John 14:6
Jesus is the centre of the Christian faith. He was a man who lived in Israel 2,000 years ago. But we believe that Jesus wasn’t just a human. He claimed to be God himself in person, and we believe him.
Jesus lived, taught, and performed miracles with the wisdom, compassion and power of God himself. Then he was arrested, and crucified on a Roman cross. This is normally a shameful death, but we believe it was not a failure. In fact, it was God’s plan for conquering evil, sin and death, and fixing our relationship with him.
On the cross, Jesus died in our place. He was completely innocent, but out of love for us, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, the judgement of God we rightly deserved, and made the forgiveness of our sins possible. And Jesus’ death wasn’t the end. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death forever.
Jesus made a way for us to be in right relationship with God, and to enjoy eternal life with him.
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. The Spirit helps us trust Jesus as our Saviour and Lord, brings us into God’s family, and changes us to be more like Jesus.
Today, Christians seek to love others and live out God’s will in the world, while we look forward to the day when Jesus will return to fix all brokenness, and make all things new.
